In
the audio world there aren't many low cost -
high quality film caps. Some of the ones commonly
available are a little edgy sounding, add sssh,
and sing along with the music due to loose windings,
voids or poor quality films etc.. Obbligato
caps are made with extra tight winding, no voids
and thick coated aluminum film imported from
Germany. Lead outs are soldered copper, solid
core for the dry types and for most of the oil
types. Spec'd at 5% but on average much closer
than that. Sound can be subjectively described
as smooth and easy.
Consider
these to be the equal to supreme or premium
series film caps.

Purpose designed Obbligato Premium Film Power
Supply Film Caps. Not oil filled. Non-polarized
but the black wire should be used as ground
and the tabbed end for B+ rail. Although rated
at 47uf/500v these are not like electrolytic's
that pop when overvoltaged and can be safely
used in circuit to rated maximum. Constructed
axially for the lowest possible inductance.
Wound tight with no voids.
With
Black Gate disappearing we need to find a new
solution. A key measurement is dissipation factor
which measures how much of the signal gets soaked
up by internal losses (power supply ARE in the
signal path).
