Bastanis Prometheus MKII


The Prometheus MKII are a highly dynamic (100db/1watt) speaker system that offer full range sound from 25 to 20,000 hz. They are offered here in a simple to build kit with all drivers, wiring and instruction manual, you supply the wood and labor. They consist of a pair of open baffles wide bands& hornloaded tweeters with active powered subs to fill in the bottom end.

The Prometheus have the speed and openness of a planer, the dynamics of large horns and pinpoint imaging of a mini monitor. The bass is deep, tight and seamless with dynamics that perfectly match the widebands. Plus they can light up a large room with a huge soundstage with as little as 2 watts. The Prometheus Speakers break all the rules!

The heart of the Prometheus is the amazing Bastanis 12" "Wideband" driver. The Widebands plays from 100hz to 10,000hz and have no crossover network. The specialty treated phenolic tweeter drivers chime in above 10K and have a single cap as a crossover. The subs are unique as they are tuned to 180hz, well above there playing range. They play from 25hz to around 135 hz depending on the settings of the Titan bass amp. Result is phenomenal speed and dynamics from the 12 inch bass drivers. The active bass amp(s) are custom made for Bastanis just like the rest of the drivers that make up the Prometheus Speaker System.

The woodworking for the cabinets and the assembly of the kit can be easily done. A full instruction manual for building the kit is included. Of coarse you are free to explore any arrangement your mind can imagine and many customers have! (see the Bastanis showroom)

I am clearly gushing over these speakers, something my Editor and fellow moonies probably thought they'd never see me do. While I do think that the Bastanis speakers are truly exceptional, I need to add an important caveat. More so than any speaker I've ever had in my possession, the Bastanis demand the highest-quality, purest, hot-rodded front end you can muster.

If Prometheus will fit with your living environment then I wholeheartedly recommend them. If they don't fit in your environment or with your marriage then still buy them and fix the problem. They are that good.

Sonically however, the Bastanis Prometheus loudspeakers are wonderful. They engage the whole room. They create a huge soundstage. They are full-frequency. They are easy to set up. They have texture, detail, and air. They are musical and tuneful. They play very loud and very soft… and still manage to keep tons of detail, resolution, dynamic range and full-frequency even at low-medium volume levels. Horns sound like horns, synths sound like synths, synth-horns sound like synth-horns. Drums have an incredible illusion of real kits, right there, at the end of my room.

The Prometheus system has an impressive natural and emotional sound. The greatest asset is the tonality in the mid-range, that is comparable to the most expensive and best systems on the market. The sound is open and subtle, but also creamy and rich. You don’t listen to a speaker system, you just enjoy the music, even when you try to test the limitations with extreme records.
