The Bastanis Dragonfly is a quasi transmission line, bottom firing hornloaded loudspeaker. (93db/1watt) It is offered here in kit form with all drivers, wiring, screws and building manual, you supply the wood and labor.

The Dragonfly consists of an 8" coaxial driver with a horn loaded tweeter. The tweeter horn is hidden behind the woofers dust cover while the tweeter driver is screwed on the back. Because of the co-axial design and the resulting point source radiating sound a superior deep soundstage can be heard.
The Prometheus II and the Dragonfly share the same high quality Italian made tweeter. The phenolic diaphragm is treated with an exclusive Bastanis pixie dust for smoother extended response. The tweeter only has to handle frequency's above 10,000hz and is simply filtered with a 1st order filter (a capacitor).

The Dragonfly's woofer covers 40Hz to 10.000Hz and has a wide dynamic range. In order for the large diaphragm to reproduce voices and acoustic instruments realistically, it has been treated with a special oil.The bottom end is handled by an unique bottom firing hornload cabinet.

Together with the very pure sound representation of the extremely low distortion tweeter this enables the Dragonfly to dissolve even the finest structures of music and separate the different layers of the reproduced music. Authenticity of a live performance is the result. The Dragonfly therefore excels in conveying the emotion and thrill of a life performance.

In a smaller room the Dragonfly can be driven by low powered SET amps to comfortable levels. Many customers comment how it sounds similar to the Prometheus speaker system located in larger listening room. The bass is very extended and fast, easily matching the speed of the midrange and tweeter. The soundstage is wide and deep and there is no fatigue even after long listening sessions. In a larger room more power (20+ watts) is required with placement closer to a room boundary for best bass response.
